Part two of The Increadible Shrinking Gunman. Part two "It's okay. Their coming." Byers felt a little relived. "So how about that blood sample?" Frohike held up a syringe, which seemed very big to Langly. "Uh, I think I'll let Scully do that." Langly backed up a little. "Do you really think they can help him?" Jimmy asked. "If anyone can, they can." Byers said. "Unless they both have heart attacks the minute they see him." Frohike muttered darkly. "Oh come on. I 'm not THAT much smaller." Langly scoffed. "We should measure you again." Byers said. "Why? I can't be shrinking that fast." "Still..." Byers looked troubled. Langly sighed. "If it'll make you guys feel better." "Umm..." Jimmy said while measuring. "Bad news." "But it's only been an hour." Langly pointed out. "I can 't be any-" "Well, somehow, your only five foot four." "What?!" Frohike yelped. "Oh..." Byers gasped. Langly's eyes rolled back in his head, and he blacked out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Thanks for coming...He's in real bad shape." Langly heard Byers voice. "I should say so." Scully 's voice gasped. "Guys, he's coming to." Jimmy said. Langly open his eyes. At some point, they must have removed his glasses, because things were fuzzy. A familiar looking pink and red blotch, with two smaller blue blotches stared into his face. "Hey Scully." He managed. "Hi Langly." Scully said. "How are you feeling?" "Like crap." A pink and brown blotch, with two smaller brown blotches popped into view. "Hey Mulder." "Hey Langly." "How long have I been out?" He asked. "A few hours." Scully checked his pulse. "And you just got here? Jeez you guys are slow." Langly smirked. "Yeah well, Byers told us what happened. Not that it would have been hard to figure out anyway." Mulder said. "What's that supposed to-AH!" Langly tried to get down from the couch, and got tangled up in his clothes. "Jeez, how much did I shrink?" "You don't want to know." Byers groaned. "Yes I do." "The last time we checked..." Jimmy trailed off. "You were four foot eleven." Frohike finished. "What?!!" Langly yelped. "You haven't shrunk any more since then." Scully tried to calm him down. "Oh that's reassuring." Langly moaned. "Just calm down. We're trying to figure this out." Mulder laid a hand on his friend's trembling shoulder. "Do you still want that blood sample?" Langly asked. "Already have it. You were knocked out so..." Scully trailed off. Mulder handed Langly his glasses. "You guys are so devious." Langly put on his glasses and gasped. Everyone looked so tall! Even Scully and Frohike towered over him. "Jeez..." He muttered. This is really weird." Scully stared into a microscope. "What?" Byers asked. "Langly's blood. There seems to be an extra parasitic cell that's feeding off the normal ones." "Which means...?" Jimmy asked. "Which means, we can't stop this unless we somehow get rid of that extra cell." Scully explained worriedly. "And even then, there's no guarantee he'll grow back to normal size." "What do you mean?" Frohike asked. "Cells re-grow their mass don't they?" "The thing is, Langly's cells might just stay as big as when they stops shrinking stops shrinking. If they stop shrinking." Scully sighed. "If?" Langly squeaked. "Well, if we don't find a cure, you might not stop." Mulder said gently. Langly's face turned ashen. "I-I-" He stammered. "Mulder, you're not helping!" Scully hissed. "Sorry. But he should know." "I think I'm gonna pass out again." Langly moaned. "Don't. That might speed up the process." Byers said worriedly. "Do you know what did this?" Mulder asked. "The ray. It has to be." Jimmy said "It's the only thing that he's been exposed to." Byers admitted. "But we can't be 100% sure." "Yes we can." Langly eased himself off the couch. "If the clothes that got zapped are smaller too, that means it was the ray. Besides I need to change into something that fits." Langly's jeans started to slide down, reveling boxers with little UFOs on them. He snatched at his belt, turned red, and ran out of the room, stumbling over his cuffs. "Mulder, don't you have a pair like that?" Scully asked. "I'm really worried about him." Byers cut in. "That makes five of us." Frohike sighed. "Hey guys? Something's been troubling me." Jimmy said. "What?" Byers asked. "Well, if it wasn't the ray, Langly's glasses wouldn't be getting smaller would they?" "No, I guess not." "And since they were smaller..." Jimmy trailed off. "Your right. Why didn't WE think of that?" Frohike wondered. "I think we just figured out who the smartest Gunman is." Mulder grinned. "Shut-up." Frohike growled. Mulder shrugged. "Well, it WAS the ray." Langly came out of his room in fitting clothes. "Yeah, we kind of figured that out." Jimmy said. "Well, did you figure out how to reverse it? Or even to stop it?" Langly clambered back on the couch. "Not yet." Mulder sighed. "I'd say we need a new ray. We can't use the one you brought back." Scully turned the crushed metal over in her hands. "We don't even know if they built another one." Frohike pointed out. "I'll just hack into the system." Langly hopped of the couch and sat at the computer. He sighed a little, as his feet dangled above the floor. "Well, they've improved security measures. There's a better firewall. Nothin' I can't handle." "Just handle it fast, okay? There's no telling how much time we have." Byers warned. "Hey, you can't rush these things. It's delicate, painstaking work." Langly objected. "Whatever." Frohike sighed. "We have a duplicate ray." Langly announced. "Actually, they built it before we, um, borrowed the first." "Interesting choice of words." Mulder muttered. "Anyway, it's under high security. The only way into it besides a DNA recognition is..." Langly typed some more. "...A very small ventilation duct." "How small?" Byers inquired. "Half a foot tall and wide." Langly sighed. "No way I’m gonna fit in there." "Not yet at least." Scully murmured. "What do you mean 'Not yet'?" Langly spun around. "Well, there's no telling exactly how small your going to get." Scully said softly. "Yeah but less that six inches?" "It's possible." "But not very probable, right?" "Well..." "What do you mean 'Well'?" "Well..." "Stop saying that!!" "Whatever." Scully sighed. "There's absolutely no other way to get in." Byers moaned. "So in other words..." Frohike began. "We're screwed." Langly groaned. "Okay I'm prescribing steroids." Scully said after a pause. "Your doing what now?" Byers asked. "It may slow down the shrinking process." Scully explained, while getting her coat. "Mulder and I'll be looking for an antidote." "What should I do?" Frohike asked. "See if there's another facility like the one you broke into." "What about me?" Langly piped up. "You rest. The less you move, the slower it'll happen." Scully handed Byers a vial of pills. "Make sure he takes these." "But I'll go crazy if I just sit around!!" Langly complained. "Deal with it. Unless of course, you want to be the size of a mouse." Scully smirked. "I'll rest." Langly flopped onto the couch, and grabbed the remote. "Call me soon." Scully advised, and walked out. "Or me." Mulder said weakly, knowing who Frohike would call. "Will do." Byers monitored them getting in their car. "So now what?" Jimmy asked. "Now we wait." Byers sighed and gave Langly one of his pills. "I hate this." Langly groaned. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
